IPL 2025 is likely to shift from Kolkata to Ahmedabad; May be on May 30

Although the final decision in the places is dependent on the inputs from central and state governments, BCCI actively investigates more secure alternatives in the eastern and southern regions of the country.

In what could be one of the many massive changes that could be in store for us regarding the IPL 2025, the tournament final — initially scheduled at Eden Gardens, Kolkata — is now likely to be shifted to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The unprecedented suspension of the IPL 2025 has left the BCCI scratching its head. Courtesy of the high tensions between India and Pakistan, the officials were forced to pause the high-octane tournament for a week. However, it has been confirmed that the BCCI is looking to restart the IPL 2025 as soon as possible. However, changes are imminent, with the IPL final likely to be delayed from May 25 to May 30.

IPL 2025 Final update

Having said that, the primary reason for the potential change of the venue is the forecast of inclement weather in Kolkata around May 30, with weather predicting cloudy skies and possible rainfall. According to a PTI journalist, the BCCI is likely to shift the summit clash from Kolkata to Ahmedabad. As far as the weather conditions are concerned, the Eden Gardens is likely to receive around 65% of precipitation on May 30, the likely rescheduled date of the final.

Revised IPL schedule in works as playoffs near

Following the one-week suspension of IPL 2025, the BCCI is looking to resume the tournament on May 16 across three venues — Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad — with the full revised schedule expected by Sunday night. With just 12 matches left, including four playoff games, the BCCI needs a minimum of two weeks, prompting more doubleheaders. However, it would be interesting to see if the BCCI host the final in Ahmedabad and rest of the matches before that in southern India.

As per the initial schedule, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is set to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, while Eden Gardens is slated to host Qualifier 2. However, the final may no longer be Kolkata’s to stage. If May 30 is retained as the final date, the India A vs England Lions unofficial Test starting the same day might be deferred, as several A-team players are expected to be involved in the IPL playoffs.
