Roston Chase named West Indies Test Captain in front of the WTC 2025-27 cycle

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the versatile Roston Chase was appointed as the new captain of the West Indian Islands test team and Jomel Warrican was announced on Friday on Friday. In official versions, CWI emphasized a solid data -oriented selection process that led to the short list of six candidates for the role, John Campbell, Tevin IMLACH, Joshua da Silva, Justin Greaves, Chase and Warrican. The short list of candidates were evaluated on various key factors such as test experience, leadership qualifications and previous captain identity information.
Later, they had a detailed evaluation process, which includes psychometric tests to adapt to general adaptation to the leadership style, behavior and role. This was followed by tactical approach, communication skills and structured interviews that make it compatible with the culture of team.
At the end of the election process, Roston Chase was appointed as Captain and chose the Assistant Jomel Warrican.
Shai Hope, who currently leads to the West Indian Islands in ODI and T20Is, chose to run for the test captain and chose to focus on shorter formats.
Bringing 49 tests and 86 limited-up-to-up international fields, Chase takes over from Kraigg Brathwaite, who resigned from the role in March 2025.
Speaking about the appointment, the head coach Daren Sammy, “I fully approve this appointment. Our new captain has gained respect for his peers, understands the responsibility from the role and showed the leadership qualities we need to take forward.
“I urge fans in the region to gather behind him-we were building something of private.”
Chase’s first task as a test captain will be three match series against Australia in June, which will be one of the opening competitions at the new ICC World Test Championship cycle.
