Notre Dame hired Pat Garrity on Tuesday as the general manager of the struggle of Irish male and women’s basketball teams.

The Double GM role is new in Notre Dame and is believed to be the second role that controls both male and female sports in university athletics. Baker Dunleavy has a similar position for Villanova’s basketball programs in 2023.

Garrity, 48, will also supervise male basketball as the primary sports manager.

Garrity graduated in 1998 and prepared by Milwaukee Bucks in the first round (generally 19th) that year. Notre Dame is still fifth with 2,085 career points in school history.

With a 6-meter 9-speed, Phoenix Suns (1998-99) and Orlando Magic (1999-2008), he spent 10 seasons in the NBA and received an average of 7.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 552 matches (107 beginnings).

Between 2016-20, he became Deputy General Manager of Detroit Pistons.

“I am very excited to return to Notre Dame.” He said. “Notre Dame has always been a second house for me and my family at every point of my career and life.

“… Thank you for your trust and for offering me this surprising new opportunity. In both programs, I can’t wait to serve our extraordinary student athletes and to contribute to the wider mission of our athletic department and university.”

Notre Dame Men’s team finished 15-18 (8-12 Acc) under the second year coach Micah Shrewsberry in 2024-25 and missed the NCAA tournament for a third straight season.

Last season, the fifth grade coach Niele Ivey went under 28-6 (16-2 ACC) and reached Sweet 16 for the fourth flat season.

Garrity’s responsibilities include the development of long -term strategies for staff management during the transfer portal period, budget analysis, income production, donation collection, graduate relations and facility management.

“We were not more excited to meet Pat again to Notre Dame,” athletic director Pete Bevacqua said. He said. “While we focused on coaching and supporting our spectacular student athletes with the speed of change in college sports, we knew we had to find someone who could support Micah and Niele with everything necessary for high -level basketball programs in the field.

“To bring someone like Pat, who is a Notre Dame graduate, former student-atelet, 10-year NBA veteran, former NBA front office manager and Notre Dame parent made him an excellent candidate from the beginning.”
