The US government fired the researchers conducting an important drug use survey

The only nationwide assessment of drug use in the United States is a critical tool in the fight against opioid epidemics.

On April 1, the US government suddenly dismissed 17 people who conducted the only survey of the country’s single substance use and mental health throughout the country. For more than half a century, National Drug Use and Health Research (NSDUH) helped to inform doctors, researchers and policy makers by monitoring these problems throughout the United States. The future is no longer uncertain, because it is not clear who will take over.
