Researchers say that scientists should try the creative ways to convey their efforts to inspire actions to protect the natural world.

Scientists have published their work in academic journals, which are expected to be technical, objective and passionate to write their work, it is not possible to appeal to experiences or not easily understand.

Researchers from Exeter University have turned into “stories”, which have benefits for both science and a wider society. They propose ways where scientists can tell strong, passionate stories without sacrificing the impartiality of science.

Article published in the journal People and nature“Trying new scientific narratives during the collapse of climate and biological diversity” titled “We are the monkeys of storytelling.”

“As an environmental scientists, we feel frustration, loss, fear and sometimes helplessness in lack of action to protect the planet, as environmental scientists,” as environmental scientists. He said.

“However, rational for the fear of being seen as less objective and reliable – it is expected to be rational – not emotional. This prevents scientists from using their knowledge, passion and creative skills to fully communicate.”

Katherine Crichton said that the current academic method emerged in the 17th and 18th centuries and that the “gentleman scientists” wrote for each other.

“This way of writing has a clear place – but we do not only discuss the technical aspects of science for academic interest.” He said. “Everyone should be interested in the climate and biological diversity crisis – we are talking about our home and this issue is too important to be limited to academic magazines.”

Professor Angela Gallego-Sala, an expert in the fields of peat, “We are examining these ecosystems because we love them-is expected to be removed from our issues. Almost all of our business, scientist remains ‘masked’.

Researchers, as author Sir Terry Pratchett defines us, propose ways to communicate “storytelling chimpanzees”.

These methods are to embrace the “story of storytelling art” with platforms for publication as well as traditional scientific writing.

They also argue that scientists should share the “secret” side of their work: how things are done behind the scenes (as in nature documentaries such as “blue” at the end of each section of “Blue Planet II”).

They also encourage scientists to try new ways of “nurturing science to normal human life” – for example, author biographies that go beyond real CVs allow authors to share connections with personal stories, motivations and subjects.

“Current communication methods did not work, our climate and natural world continues to be destroyed. We should try something different. People are inspired by stories. By telling better stories, scientists can help meaningful actions to protect ourselves by protecting our environment and planet.”

Professor Anderson, “There are many academic studies advocating scientific storytelling. The problem is that this is the fact that other parts do not show how this can be done. Our piece tries to exhibit different ways where scientists can try more creative communication methods.

“We understand that it may seem strange to do this, but we hope that other scientists are willing to try it. This is the beginning of a different type of experiment – an experiment with stories.”
