Babar, Rizwan Dodge Run-Chases Struggles Query

Pakistan Super League (PSL) captains Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan had an embarrassing moment on stage ahead of PSL 10. The duo were asked about Pakistan’s struggle in run-chases during a joint press conference with all PSL 10 captains. However, both the stars looked clueless about what to say and completely dodged the question.

At the press conference ahead of PSL 10, a question was asked about Pakistan’s woes in big run-chases. The question was posed to Babar who decided to pass the buck on to Rizwan. The Pakistan white-ball captain chose to ignore the question, creating quite a red-faced moment.

It was then Shaheen Afridi who came to the rescue. He claimed that it was the responsibility of the Pakistan bowlers to defend whatever target the batters had set.

Q to Babar: “No doubt that the morale of the country is down at this time. Where are we lacking? Is it mindset, lack of intent when teams post 200+ run targets, we are unsuccessful in the chase. Will you practice in PSL for situations when teams post such a target which can be chased in the future?“

Babar urges Rizwan to answer. Rizwan doesn’t respond.

A by Shaheen: “Bowlers have equal responsibility to ensure that 200 runs aren’t made. In today’s game the wickets are very good. It is the responsibility of the bowlers to ensure that 200 is not chased easily. We are one team, one family”

Pakistan’s disastrous summer

Following their group stage exit in Champions Trophy, Pakistan continued to struggle in white-ball formats. They were first defeated 2-1 in the T20I series against New Zealand.

Rizwan and co’s. woes only compounded after that as they were whitewashed 3-0 in the ODI series that followed. Speaking after the defeat, skipper Rizwan claimed that their focus would now be to perform well in PSL and impress the fans. He failed to address Pakistan’s struggles in the international circuit.
