Goruck GR1 (7/10, Wired Review) is the package that launches the company and is still the best and most versatile of the Goruck series. GR1 comes in 2 dimensions: 21L and 26l, there is a second, but if I had to choose only one, it would be 21L. This is the perfect dimension for rubing, daily transport and weekend trips if you pack the light. I even had a 21L bag (with a shoulder bag for my camera equipment) during a week of journey. This was a stuck, but it worked. The 21L GR1 is deceptive great, and it seems to swallow more gears than I always think.
My favorite thing about GR1 is its versatility. I used this package for aircraft travel (as transport), ricking, walking, camera hardware and more. I even tied it to the back shelf of my bike for a Bikepacking trip overnight. The only warning I have is that if you use it for ricking (or what you want to walk or what you want), you will not sweat and that sweat will be dipped in the package. It will finally smell. It is easy to correct it by washing soap and water and then hanging it into the air (never put the bag on a washing machine or dryer), but it takes some time. If you are doing too much rucking and do not want to look at the airport, be sure to plan before.
GR1 consists of three compartments. Against your back, there is a good series, a rigid laptop compartment (or the ruck plate holder when making rubing). There is an angled zipper pocket for frequently accessed products in front of the package. If you really pack the interior, it will be tight, but it is useful for wallets and passports and the like. Inside, it is a large compartment accessed by a U -shaped zipper, so that the “cover” is completely folded and loaded like a suitcase.
Internally, there are three rows of molle (modular light load carrying equipment) on top to add pockets and organizers with 3 interior pockets: a large elastic pocket and zipper mobile and a small solid pocket on the lid. The outer part of the back is made of 1000D Cordura, the very heavy service type. The rear panel and shoulder straps are 210d Cordura. The more open weight rear fabric is easier in less intact (but wonderful) fabrics such as merino wool. There are 3 rows of moles on the outer front and sides. This allows you to connect to extra compartments and organizers (one Vanquest water bottle holderWake up a nalgen, next to me. Look down for more organizers and accessories). You can also use this side to add. padded hip belt. The upper arm is not only strong, but also comfortable enough to carry the GR1 somehow. Also, if you want the back to be less hard, you can pull the plastic frame behind the package, but I never felt the need to do it.
If you need 6 feet length or more space in your package, 26L version It is also a great package and there is a very nice extra zipper pocket on the bag where you can store your wallet, keys and other small items.
