Dewald Brevis, often referred to as “Baby AB” for his resemblance to AB de Villiers in batting style, has been a rising star in T20 cricket. His IPL journey began with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2022, where he played 10 matches. Known for his aggressive batting, Brevis showcased his potential but was released by MI after the 2024 season.
Despite going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, he was later signed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh. CSK secured his services for INR 2.2 crore, a significant jump from his base price of INR 75 lakh.
Brevis has played 81 T20 matches globally, amassing 1,787 runs at an average of 26.27 and a strike rate of 144.93. His highest score in T20s is an impressive 162. He made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played two matches for his national team so far.
