FIFA approved the establishment of an Afghanistan women’s refugee team that will compete in matches controlled by the World Government Organ.

According to FIFA, the team of Afghan citizens who receive refugee status abroad will first operate at a one -year pilot stage, which will help the organization to determine the long -term applicability of the program.

The FIFA Council must approve the establishment of the team. FIFA President Gianni Infantino called his approval as a “turning point” and added that “FIFA is determined to give every girl the opportunity to play football”.

FIFA regulations require the recognition of teams by a national federation in order to compete. However, the Afghan Football Federation did not accept women’s teams, in fact, all women’s sports banned throughout the country.

Afghanistan has not competed in an official match since 2018.
