Following the retirees of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the test cricket, Indian Head Coach Guatam Gambhir reported that the team demanded full authority from the Cricket Control Board (BCCI) in India for daily operations. Since his appointment as a chief coach, Gambhir was determined to end the Superstar culture in the team. And apparently, Rohit and Kohli may have played a big hand to force the future by taking a look at the future.
The sudden announcement of Rohit and Kohli came days before India’s upcoming the squad for the upcoming test series in England. It is guaranteed that the team will have a new captain, and Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah lead the race to wear Blazer at Toss when the first test on Leeds on June 20th.
According to a report DAINIC BHASKARGambhir, team selection, policy -making and other decisions related to the team will look for shooting because there is no one to challenge their calls. This will mark the first example of an Indian head coach with more power than the captain.
“Gambhir asked the Board to stop the defeat of the home series against New Zealand and the repetition of the disaster in Australia.” He said.
In the report, Gambhir added that he wanted to have a captain who can be a partner because he is still young in Gill. The only player who can challenge Gambhir’s current team is the other Frontrunner – Bumrah in the captain race.
Bumrah was the assistant of Rohit’s test jack, which ideally made it a choice of automatic captain. He even served as a stand-in captain in Perth, and when he was selected in the post-test in Rohit Sydney, he led the party. However, the injury may be the cause of Gill’s shaking his head.
If this is, it is safe to say that it is really the beginning of the ‘gautam gambhir’ period. However, Gambhir will have this authority in the test jack, as it is fully in force to play the 2027 ODI World Cup of both Rohit and Kohli.
