Glenn Maxwell decided with a broken IPL 2025 PBKS Skipper Shreyas Iyer

Glenn Maxwell’s IPL 2025 journey has come to an end with an injury ruling the Australian out of the tournament. The veteran, has struggled for form, but was expected to feature in the CSK vs PBKS clash on Wednesday. However, captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed Maxwell’s injury, with PBKS yet to announce a replacement for the all rounder.

Speaking at the toss, Shreyas Iyer confirmed, “Unfortunate that Maxwell’s got a fractured finger. Haven’t decided on a replacement so far.”

The Australian was absent during Punjab Kings’ training session at the Chepauk. He was also absent during the pre-game drills, all but confirming his absence. Glenn Maxwell has struggled for form this IPL but has still been a regular in the Punjab Kings XI. He’s played in 7 of the 8 games the Punjab Kings have played before the game against the Chennai Super Kings. Maxwell has just 48 runs in 6 innings, averaging 8.00 and striking at a meagre 97.95.

He’s however, been handy with ball in hand. Maxwell played a key role in PBKS’ defence of 112 against Kolkata Knight Riders, triggering a collapse with Yuzvendra Chahal for company. Overall, he has 4 wickets in 6 innings this season. His economy rate is 8.46, providing some vital bowling cover to Shreyas Iyer. With the surface at Chepauk aiding spin, Maxwell could have been a handful against CSK’s left-hand heavy batting order.

With Maxwell out, Punjab Kings will aim to find a replacement. The Shreyas Iyer-led outfit are in the running for a playoff berth and will need their squad up to speed. The Kings have already lost Lockie Ferguson to injury, and Maxwell’s fracture makes things worse in terms of squad depth. For the CSK game, Iyer has counted on Azmatullah Omarzai and Suryansh Shedge to fill in.
