He wants the former selective Bumrah to change Rohit to Captain

Old Indian selective MSK Prasad wants Jasprit Bumrah to lead the team and wants Shubman Gill to be assistant

Former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has backed Jasprit Bumrah to be Rohit Sharma’s successor as Test captain. India are looking for a new captain following the Hitman’s abrupt decision to retire from Tests two days ago. As per reports, Shubman Gill is considered as the front-runner to take over the reins from Sharma. However, MSK Prasad thinks so otherwise.

Prasad picks Bumrah over Gill

Speaking to India Today, Prasad pointed out that Bumrah was fit now and could might as well lead the team for the Test series against England. The former Indian selector pointed out that the pacer would be playing the next two World Test Championship (WTC) cycles, adding that there was nothing wrong in making him captain.

Why not, man? Why not? Since he’s fit now, why not? You have three choices right now: Bumrah, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul. These are the three options. If you’re looking at Bumrah, he will obviously play both cycles-this one and the next-so there’s nothing wrong. And whatever opportunities he’s had to lead, he’s done extremely well,” Prasad said.

Bumrah as captain, Gill his deputy

Bumrah has had a fairly decent experience while leading Team India in the past. Recently, he captained India in the 1st and 5th Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests, winning one and losing one.

Earlier, reports had stated that the selectors weren’t keen on making the pacer captain due to his injuries and workload management. One such report claimed that Bumrah wouldn’t even be given vice-captaincy for the series against England as he is not expected to play all five Tests.

“See, I think Shubman needs one good series in England or New Zealand so he can focus on his batting. So, I think Bumrah is a fantastic leader. There’s no second thought about that. You can start with Bumrah and make Shubman vice-captain,” Prasad added.
