In the țarcu mountains of Romania, a pioneering trial changes the atmosphere around the hugging. Starting from 2014, approximately 100 European Bizonu was re -introduced to the region, which was hunted by hunting more than 200 years ago. Now they’re grazing more than 170 numbers and more than 48 square kilometers. This is a success story in itself. However, this project has more than just bringing the big monsters back. The areas of influence have become a carbon hoover, and each year an estimated 200,000 tons of carbon dioxide absorbed and equivalent to buying 43,000 gasoline cars from the road.
The bison themselves are not an important carbon sink. Effects on the wider environment – creating various habitats by compressing the soil, distributing seeds and browsing – Carbon sucking the ability to absorb turbocharged. The area where they wandered is now absorbed 10 times the amount before the re -introduction of the bison.
The experiment of the Arcu Mountains is the first test of a concept. Oswald SchmitzClaims, an ecologist from Yale University, have the potential to restore the atmosphere to a previous state and therefore helps to arrest climate change. Schmitz and his collaborators argue that if similar projects are presented both on land and at sea, a significant amount of carbon will be lost.
