The spring of Iga Swiatek’s discontent continued on Saturday when it was released by Danielle Collins in the third round of the Italian Open in Rome.

Collins’ 6-1, 7-5 sad victory 2 player on the paper seemed impossible. Collins lost to Swiatek in seven of his last eight games. And Swiatek from Poland won 21 out of the last 22 matches at the Kil Court in Rome and received the title of three years in the last four years.

But that’s not the same swiatek. Last June, he did not win a tournament because he won a victory in the French Open in Roland Garros and won the fourth Paris Grand Slam. When the new rankings are released on Monday, the highest number will drop from 2 to 4.

Swiatek has ranked 1 or 2 since March 20, 2022. The loss of nine this season is equal to the number he had in the 2024 season when he finished 64-9.

After the match, Collins said he drew the experience he gained in many games with Swiatek.

“Frankly, I’ve played against IgA many times, Coll Collins said. “When you play such a close match and play your best tennis and lose – you learn a lot.”

Collins finished 32 winning and 15 forced errors compared to Swiatek with 15 and 22, respectively. Collins also made money for six of eight breaks, while Swiatek took advantage of only two from 10.

For more than a year, Collins has been the first 10 wins and 16 at 16 trials against a world number 2 (Angelique Kerber, 2019 and Ashleight Barty, 2021).
