A rematch between Preakness Stakes winning journalism and Kentucky Derby winning sovereignty could be off the office in Belmont Stakes on June 7.
Sovereignty, which was eaten on May 3, journalism in derby 1/2 length, did not compete in Preakness in Baltimore last Saturday, and instead chose to prepare it for Belmont.
Saratoga Springs is trained in NY for the last leg of Triple Crown. The race will be held on the upstate Saratoga race track for a second year.
No decisions have been made about the Belmont status of journalism, but the owners are thinking of a run.
“We are very respectful of sovereignty. He beat us in the square in Kentucky Derby.” He said. “As much as we want to make a square with sovereignty, it does not affect our final determination to whether journalism has worked at Belmont.
He said: “We want to be in the position to run in Belmont, but they will all depend on journalism and the signs he has shown to us, and (instructor) Michael McCarthy.
Other horses that can compete in the first grade Belmont, Rodriguez, the winner of the Wood Monument; Preakness Second Gosger; Kentucky Derby is third in Baeza; Peter Pan Winner Hill Road; And heart of Honor, who finished fifth in Preakness.
