Smartphones can be a distraction of other tasks

Do you distract yourself by turning to your smartphone for a little unhealthy shift? A solution is that your phone cannot be accessed – but unfortunately it may not work.

Heitmayer and his colleagues recorded 22 university students and office employees between the ages of 22 and 31 to see that this distraction could not be avoided and worked as usual at a table in a special room. One day, the participants held their phones in a way that ARM could not reach. Researchers found that volunteers spent an average of 23 minutes by performing leisure activities on the first day of their phones, but they spent 16 minutes while their devices were far away. Nevertheless, they did not work more on the second day – instead, the participants spent more time to do slow activities on their laptops, mostly on social media. “You can use the phone less, but all this scroll on social media has only been for longer than you switch to the laptop, Heitmayer says Heitmayer.
