A report claimed that everyone in the Indian cricket would know that Nayar would return to KKR when BCCI was undermined.
Just a day after KKR confirmed that Abhishek Nayar will be joining their coaching staff mid-way through IPL 2025, a report has shed light on how his move could have been pre-planned. Named as India’s assistant coach last year, the former Indian cricketer was axed following India’s horrendous Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign. However, Nayar wasted no time in returning back to the very team he had led to the IPL trophy in 2024.
Did Indian team know already about Nayar returning to KKR?
As per news agency PTI, a source claimed that everyone in Indian cricket knew that Nayar wouldn’t be out of a job after BCCI’s sacking. The source said that it was already anticipated that Abhishek would be returning to KKR despite his hostile axing.
“Abhishek would never be out of work even though he has been sacked in a very hostile manner. Everyone in Indian cricket knew that the moment BCCI gets rid of him, KKR would have him back in their fold,” an IPL source said.
Abhishek Nayar’s KKR comeback
Nayar hasn’t waited to join another coaching setup. The famed coach are already linked up with the reigning champions KKR before their next match against the Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens. Nayar has already been spotted alongside KKR head coach Chandrakanth Pandit in Kolkata, preparing for the home match on on April 21.
Nayar has longstanding ties with KKR. He has been part of the franchise since 2018. He has worked as the head of the KKR Academy and was the batting coach last year when they lifted their first IPL trophy in 10 years.
