Jamie Carey named the female coach in Omaha

Former WNBA player Jamie Carey was chosen as the head coach of Omaha Women's Basketball Program on Sunday.

Carey spent the last four seasons Colorado (2015-17), Alma Mater Texas (2017-20) and an assistant coach in UTSA as an assistant in North Texas (2020-21).

Carey, who was a guard for Connecticut Sun between 2005-08, won a silver medal with the US team in Pan American Games 2003 and served as the National Team Director of the US Basketball Deputy National Team between 2010-14. With Longhorns, he was called All-Big 12 during his career.

“We are proud to host Jamie Carey as the new leader of our Women's Basketball Program,” Omaha Athletic Director Adrian Dowell said. He said. “Coach Carey brings us a rich experience in the highest -level college athletics as a ram and student athlete, combined with the playing career in WNBA. Throughout the coaching career and during the interview process, Coach Carey showed an exciting passion for competitive successes.

Omaha went 14-17 (5-11 summit) last season and assigned coach Carrie Banks at the end of its fifth season. Mavericks has not published a winning record since he finished 16-15 in 2016-17 season.
