Jasmine Paolini defeats Coco Gauff in the Roman final, reaches the milestone

Jasmine Paolini wrote history in Rome on Saturday, and in 40 years, in the final of Internazionali Bnl D’Italia’s final, Coco Gauff took the top, while it was the first Italian to win women’s Single at the signature tournament of her country.
Paolini, the sixth seed, needed only one hour 29 minutes to beat the fourth seed Gauff 6-4, 6-2 in front of a enthusiastic house crowd. Since Raffaella Reggi succeeded in 1985, no Italian women had won.
For Paolini, this is his third WTA single and the first Clay. Gauff and Paolini are now attached to 2-2 in the series, the American Hardcourt wins twice and the Italians win twice in clay.
“He doesn’t look real to me, Pa Paolini said. “I came here as a child to see this tournament, but it wasn’t even in my dreams to win and hold this trophy.”
Gauff’s ongoing troubles led to defeat. Only 53 percent of his first services went in and had seven pairs of errors compared to zero for Paolini, which converted five out of seven breaks.
More opportunities for Glory are waiting for Paolini and Italy.
Paolini and his partner Sara Errani will play on Sunday, Veronika Kudermetova from Russia and Elise Mertens of Belgium on Sunday and women couples for this cup. If they succeed, Paolini will be the first player to sweep both events at the WTA 1000 event since Russian Vera Zvonareva in 2009.
Paolini said, “Two amazing weeks have been and it’s not over yet.” He said.
Although the tournament was finished, Gauff also said he also enjoyed staying in Italy.
“I had a great time in Rome here. I lost half twice, so I was happy to do it in the final,” he said.
And had a message for Paolini:
“It is always hard to play you. Good luck [Sunday] In the Couples Final, I hope you can take it home. “
Jannik Sinner from the World No. 1 in Italy will play in the men’s finals against Carlos Alcaraz, the third seed of Spain in the search for a win since the expiry of the 90 -day doping suspension.
In a victory, Sinner would also gain a place in the history of Tennis in Italy. 49 years ago, in 1976, he would be the first Italian man to win since Adriano Panatta. That year, he defeated Guillermo Vilas from Argentina, the best seed.
