Jasprit Bumrah Eyes T20 World Cup 2026 says that it will be “selective and smart” before the IND VS ENG tests

Bumrah was the ‘player of the tournament’ in the 2024 editions of the T20 World Cup.
Without Jasprit Bumrah, Team India may have not won the T20 World Cup 2024. The 11-year drought for an ICC trophy may have continued. And who knows whether the Champions Trophy 2025 would have been there either? He was undoubtedly the best player in the tournament held in the United States and the West Indies.
Bumrah sets T20 World Cup goal
No team has ever won the T20 World Cup back-to-back. Team India can do just that. In 8 months, the 2026 edition of the tournament will be played in India. But the Men in Blue will need Bumrah. He’s still the world’s best T20 bowler. And the unorthodox pacer wants to play it.
“It is tough for any individual to keep playing everything for so long. I’ve been doing it for a while. Eventually, you have to understand where your body is going and what the important tournament is,” Bumrah told Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
Workload management
However, fitness stands in Bumrah’s way. He has already been out of action for over 3 months in 2025 due to a back injury. And Team India will commence a 5-match Test tour of England soon. Bumrah knows his body and will try to ensure he’s fit for the T20 World Cup 2026.
“You have to be a little selective and smart about how you use your body. As a cricketer, I would never want to leave anything and always keep on going. But I don’t set goals or look at numbers. Whenever I have set goals, I’ve never been able to fulfill them.
The BCCI has already made a plan for his workload management and as per chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Bumrah won’t be playing all 5 matches in the India vs England Test series.
“I just try and enjoy because that’s why I started this sport. Take one day at a time and collect memories because, at the end of the sport, that’s all I’ll remember.”
