Mackenzie Hughes, Cristobal Del Solar Share Myrtle Beach Leader

Cristobal Del Solar from Chile tied Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes to the top of the leadership board in two rounds of OPENLIGHT Myrtle Beach Classic in South Carolina on Friday.
Hughes was the first round leader thanks to 63 and moved to 10 with 69 and 10. Del Solar, Harry Higgs (66), Davis Shore (66), Nick Watney (67), Danny Walker (67) and Will Chandler (69).
Hughes finished on his card with two BOGEY and four birds at Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
Hughes, “I think the conditions dictated it.” He said. “When we started, some of the first nine holes and the back nine holes. So, (the wind) was very well blowing there. I thought it was quite hard.
“Yes, it wasn’t just the same day. I didn’t feel like I was swinging as I did yesterday.
Although Hughes had two wins in PGA Tour, Del Solar’s fame claim was 57 rounds in Korn Ferry Tour in 2024. The tour rookie had only six birds on Friday, a seventh meter of 5 meters in the third to caste hole.
Del Solar, “A few weeks in the past was very close.” He said. “Only this extra step. This extra consistency and swing or other parts, but I feel absolutely there. I definitely feel that I have the game. Everything needs to match together. Happily to see that it matches together.”
The PGA Tour veteran, which has not won since 2012 in the group under 9 years of age, is Watney. In the world ranking, it entered week 1,006 and only entered the field as an alternative when Webb Simpson was taken.
“I just wanted to come and continue to develop,” Watney said. “I’m trying not to think about what the finish means. I am aware of that.
