Meta and Pinterest believed you donated to Molly Russell Charity | Internet security

Meta and Pinterest reportedly made important donations to the Molly Rose Foundation, an aid organization established for the internet security campaign.

The foundation was founded in the name of Molly Russell, a 14 -year -old Molly Russell, who took his own life in 2017 after watching harmful materials related to suicide and self -harm on social media platforms.

The latest annual report of the Foundation refers to the grants from donors who want to stay anonymous and agreed to respect their demands.

According to the BBC, these payments have been made by Meta and Pinterest since 2024 and are expected to continue for several years. The details of the donated amounts have not been explained. However, it is understood that the Russell family did not receive any money from donation.

“Following the Coroner’s investigation into Molly’s death, we have decided that we will follow the goals we shared with Meta and Pinterest to ensure that young people have a positive experience rather than legal action, Following Coroner’s investigation into Molly’s death,” he said. “Molly’s family has always explained that we will never accept the compensation that caused Molly’s death.”

The reported donations emerge because social media companies face more criticism about the impact of online platforms on children’s mental health.

In January, as part of the changes in its policies, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s boss, said that the company would scrape Factcheckers to increase free speech and reduce “censorship” and will trust users to report content.

The Molly Rose Foundation has previously warned that the changes of Meta can make young people a higher risk of online harmful content. The government launched campaigns that call on the online security law and to give more responsibility to technology companies for the content encouraged by algorithms.

According to the BBC, the charity has received a general manager, two public policy manager, communication chairman and a donation collection manager in the last nine months.

Molly’s father, Ian Russell, continues to be an unpaid committee of trustees of the foundation and continues to be a leading internet security campaignist.

Meta and Pinterest were approached by Guardian to comment.
