“Cultures of dominance are based on the cultivation of fear as a way to obey”-Bell HOKS (2000)
Before entering the academy, I spent the first ten years of my adulthood working in various social service organizations for a series of non -profit organizations and advocacy thinking organizations. Although organizations were different in various ways, what was consistent between institutions was the implicit punishment and silence of those who could not work within the boundaries of the ideologies of sovereignty such as organizational structure, expectations and whiteness, colonial and patriarchy. Melendez et al. (2023) Posit, “The ideologies of dominance at the root of racial-clergy colonialism are buried in all the United States institutions”. Every institution I worked for was committed to social justice and salvation for everyone, but they all maintained inequality to protect power through the implementation of policies designed to protect dominance through the centralization of whiteness. HESS (2007) refers to the functioning of whiteness as “white mythologies ve and argues that it functions as the mismatch between reality and socially built things. The race is not real; was built. Whiteness is not real; It was also built. Somehow, there is a lack of questioning whiteness as a structure that ultimately positions whiteness naturally and normal, which causes the ability to dominate. Whiteness was created by the formation of the power hierarchy, where the duo we see today, represents the power and privilege of the upper part of the hierarchy and serves as the basis of exploitation of the lower part of the hierarchy. At the end of the hierarchy frame, the binary structures of structural and systematic inequality function. At one end of the spectrum, there is whiteness with power, the other end, anti-carrier, the anchor of the printing. Uncertainty has been designed through these two buildings and currently serves as the root of the US economy. The economy we have today is a result of racial -sets colonialism, and the money that allows these organizations to operate cannot be separated from it. For this reason, he invests to start the root of money institutions at least twice: capital of the land stolen from indigenous people, and the stolen labor of people who have been enslaved.
My understanding of the date of corporate investment is what I bring to every position I work with. I was working as if all managers and managers who work in inequality were open to the deliberate design of our economy and inequality. I worked in the fields of social welfare and social services. Understanding the construction of the US economy is about the social welfare area. During my first ten years of work in non -profit organizations and tanks, my experience as a young professional was some kind of psychological abuse. In my experience, whiteness emerged in a way that allows me to question my reality. For example, from 2017 to 2020, I worked as a board member in a small non -profit organization and expressed concerns that leadership did not reflect on the served community. For three years, I decided to resign after waiting for self -promises to be fulfilled. In the first year of my term as a member of the Board of Directors, the current principal of the current manager of the organization, a white woman who is not from the community but does not have a doctorate. In social work, it would not be the general manager of the organization. At the same time, the founder, a white woman, promised that the board would hire one of the community to lead the organization. Three years later he became the General Manager of the Director and the justification “He deserves the job after all his hard work”. Whitess builds the game and then determines the rules of participation in order to be in favor of the result. One of the founders who answered and expressed my resignation while I think they were a friend on my resignation, “To be honest, there was a vibe you didn’t want it to work, and this was the hope that you could use it as a story in your career”. This statement was to question my intention to resign; He made me question my reality and decision until he pointed to the material, the concrete truth: the executive director did not represent the society as promised. The intent on the effect is the result of whiteness. Today, in 2024, the executive director has not changed and now he is supervising eight black and Latin staff; All the children they serve are black and Latin, and a single community member has no job within the organization. When whiteness is the original designer and philanthropist of whiteness difficulties, it benefits from the damage and marginalization of a community. This is modern colonialism. Almost seven years later, the leadership remained the same. I made the right decision. Whiteness
While climbing the career ladder, the cycle and control of whiteness continued. As the Director of Politics and Defending, the Mission of the National Gender Equality Thinking Organization was an attempt to the treacherous information production world. Language is vital in my work as a social policy scholar, researcher and practitioner. In order for future academics and practitioners to have what they need to build a future scholarship, it is imperative to accept all parts of history. As a scholar, I believe that being honest in my scholarship on inequality is my duty. Although this desire may seem apparent, it is not applied by all academics and practitioners. In both public and private scholarships, there is a dominant and deliberate narrative framework that focuses on whiteness. Whiteness tells the story from its point of view. The control of the language is one of the primary functions of whiteness. When I was working in a national thinking organization, I experienced language control, which is seen as the “best practice” skills. While preparing a report about the racial and gender reserve gap, I was told that I could not use the term “anti -”. When I asked the reason, I was told “Language Very Strong” and ıştıştırma contrary to the best practice of our communication ”. My director at that time was a white woman with work experience and a master’s degree in the political economy in the “Women” reserve business (not gender wealth work). At that time, with two graduate degrees and more than fifteen years of work experience, I was in the fourth year doctoral studies. I’m a black woman who has been studying critical race scholarship for ten years. I was hired to work at the national level at the race and gender center in the reserve business in the institution. As a black feminist scholar that emerged, I realized that words were important. I defended the term and asked for an explanation of our “strong language” policies and definitions. I argued that there was a clear distinction between racism and anti -black racism. At that time, my director told me that I was “new ve and advised me to listen more before trying to do“ new things .. As a black woman who completed my terminal doctorate with more than fifteen years of official higher education, I was not considered enough experts by my director to use the terminology, I thought it was appropriate or use our expression. This is only one example of how whiteness maintains itself by spreading mistakes to protect its own existence.
Gem #3. Don’t listen to your words. When whiteness tries to play on your face, actions and results serve as information.
