Dhoni will be the captain of the CSK for the rest of IPL 2025 after being removed from the tournament with the elbow fracture of Gaikwad. Chief Coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the development of the team’s home match against Knight Riders, the team’s team.
On March 30, 28 -year -old Gaikwad received a blow to his elbow while encountering Tushar Deshpande in the CSK against Rajasthan Royals. Although Delhi Capitals and Punjab kings in the next two games, the scans now confirmed a fracture.
“Unfortunately, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be removed from the tournament.” He said. “He was shot in Guwahati. Working with some pain. We got a fruitless x -ray and there was a MRI that caused a fracture in his elbow, so we were disappointed and feeling.
“We appreciate the efforts he went to try to play, but unfortunately he will come out of this tournament for now. Mrs. Dhoni has a player who will take over as a captain in the rest of IPL.”
The injury is a great mishap for those who lost four of their first five matches and ranks ninth in the ranking. When Gaikwad is out, they are already losing an important figure in a wrong upper row. In particular, in the last four seasons, CSK was the leading scorer.

Gaikwad’s injury decline means that 43 -year -old Dhoni will return as the CSK captain and take back a role he held for the majority of the franchise -storey history. He briefly delivered the reins to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022, only for a turbulent season to take part over and over again. Dhoni was once again aside before the 2024 season, but now he assigned himself to revive CSK’s Faltering 2025 campaign.
“Right now, he understands that the team needs,” Fleming agreed to return to Dhoni as a captain. “There is no humidity that does not want to go. So, if possible, he did not hesitate to help us to guide us. This was never doubt.” He said.
Gaikwad was asked questions about potential backups, Fleming added: “Changes, we will look. We have some good players in the squad for a while, so we will look at the first. But yes, there is an opportunity to see that the team can progress towards the next years.”
In total, in 235 of the Dhoni 268 matches, CSK seized CSK and led them to unique consistency and success. Under his leadership, CSK made the title of five IPL (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023) and two Champions League T20 Cup. In a remarkable way, the team reached the finals in the finals 10 times in a row from 2010 to 2013, while the team finished outside the first four in two IPL season (2020 and 2022).
