MS Dhoni showed that he was still the best Wicketkeeper after making an incredible escape against LSG
Former Chennai Super Kings star Robin Uthappa has dubbed MS Dhoni’s direct hit to get rid of Abdul Samad as a fluke. The CSK captain delivered an under arm throw from behind the stumps to inflict a direct hit at the non-striker’s end to send the LSG batter packing. CSK managed to finally end their losing streak in IPL 2025 with a 5-wicket win against Rishabh Pant and co.
“Dhoni’s direct hit a tukka”
Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa remarked that Dhoni’s throw was a “tukka”. He justified his remark by stating that he too had been a wicketkeeper and hence knew that it was a fluke.
“I am someone who has worn gloves, I know this was a ‘tukka’,” Uthappa said on Star Sports.
MSD’s magic from behind stumps
After missing a Matheesha Pathirana delivery, Abdul Samad went for a quick run, as Dhoni gathered it. Despite getting slightly off balance, MSD got up in time, and just tossed the ball up towards the non-strikers end, with it hitting the stumps. Such was his precision, that the batter fell short of the crease by a whisker only.
What happened in yesterday’s IPL match?
CSK won the toss and opted to bowl in Lucknow, against LSG. That said, MS Dhoni went with two changes — where Shaikh Rasheed came in for Devon Conway, and Jamie Overton comes in for R Ashwin. Come the first innings, batting was a bit of a struggle for the top order LSG batters — as they were 79/3 in 10 overs. Eventually with Rishabh Pant’s maiden 50 in this year’s IPL, they reached 166.
Come the chase, despite losing way in the middle overs, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni ensured CSK cross the finish line, after a gap of five matches.
