Oilers D Mattias Ekholm is expected to come back for Game 5 and Stars

Defenseman Mattias Ekholm will return to Edmonton Oilers’ squad against the Dallas Stars of the Potential Western Conference Finals on Thursday.
Ekholm, with a injury that has not been explained since April 11, missed the first two rounds of playoffs for Oilers, who defeated Los Angeles kings and Vegas Golden Knights on the stars 3-1 in six matches.
Ekholm was in the best defense unit during the skate on Thursday.
Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters on Thursday, “Here is a man who plays big minutes for us for coming to Edmonton.” “Playing the role of closing, playing a penalty killing role, power game, anyway. A great contribution to our team to go back and feel great.”
Ekholm said he was “really good”, but he’s still “I’m sure I’m just a good point I can’t stand,” he said. In the last few weeks, he tried to return twice to aggravate his injury.
Ekholm scored 11 goals in his career last season and Edmonton helped an open in the 3-0 series in the Stanley Cup final and Oiles lost to Florida Panthers. The 2024-25 campaign was insufficient with nine goals, while an average of 22:11 ice time per game ranked third in the team.
