Pelicans Tab Joe Dumars as the EVP of basketball operations

New Orleans Pelicans announced that Hall of Famer Joe Dumars was the vice president of basketball operations on Wednesday.
Dumars, 61, has been the Vice President of the NBA and the head of basketball operations since 2022. David Griffin, who was expelled on Monday after a six-year mission, which resulted in the team’s 21-61 record in 2024-25, replaced.
Pelicans Gayle Benson said in a statement, “Joe’s famous honor list player, NBA champion and pre -office manager as a manager.” He said. “I respect what Joe has already achieved as a player and manager, but more importantly, I admire the character and leadership. The NBA will have a tremendous impact on our organization and our goal of winning an NBA championship with its wide experience and relationships, strong leadership qualities.
“While in the league, he took part in all areas of basketball operations and received a unique perspective and knowledge about the most influential personnel, strategies and tactics throughout the league. This will benefit our team immediately.”
Dumars will start on Monday with the pelicans.
After retiring as an actor in 1999, the pistons hired Dumars to turn to basketball operations and served between 2000-14. A season before Detroit won another championship, 2002-03 NBA became the ruler of the year.
Before moving to the league office, he worked in the front office of Sacramento Kings between 2019-22.
