Old Indian Off-Spinner R Ashwin announced that he was thinking of retirement after the 100th test, but when he was not selected for Perth test, Washington Sundar made his final decision during the Australian tour. Ashwin, who retired in Gabba after the third test against Australia, shared these details during a new podcast with Chennai Super Kings’s Mike Hussey.
After taking part in the second test in Adelaide, Ashwin played a post -test match in Gabba. He was excluded from eleven games for the third test he explained his retirement.
Spinner, who is currently playing for Chennai Super Kings, finished his test career as India’s second highest small door receiver with 537 scalp.
Ashwin, “To be very honest, I wanted to do this after my 100th test. And then I thought, okay, let me give you a chance in the home season. Because you play well and you buy a little door, you run,” Ashwin said.
“I probably thought I would close it here with the Chennai test. Finally, I got a small distance and face. So it’s hard to leave when you do it very well.”
“I mean, I continued the series and lost against New Zealand. So, one after another, it was just accumulating. And then I thought, let me go to Australia. Let me see how it went. Because I had a wonderful, wonderful tour in Australia.”
In the decision to retire, the family time became an important factor. The physical and mental demands of the game were damaged.

“I thought it made sense to play a little. I had a lot of fun, but physically and mentally, all the hard gardens I had to put myself in the park, one of the most important things that attracted me was the family time.”
