Athletic reported on Tuesday, the US Basketball plans to name Sue Bird, the General Manager of the Women's National Team for the 2028 Olympic cycle.
The 44 -year -old Bird was a member of the team that won five Olympic Gold Medal and the Four FIBA World Cup champions during the game career, which ended in 2022. Now Bird will play an integral role in preparing the US team for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
As the General Manager, Bird's role will be similar to Grant Hill's men's side, according to athletics. Leaving the tradition of using an election committee, both the Olympics and the World Cup will take responsibility for choosing cadres and choosing coaching personnel.
In 2021, Hill replaced Jerry Colangelo, Fame Hall manager. Bird, like Hill, college, professional and international levels as the winner comes with identity information.
Bird will work with Briana Weiss, the director of the US National Team since 2021.
With the country's 2024 gold medal match against France and the retirement of the bird's contemporary Diana Taurasi, the program potentially a transition period.
