Rohit Sharma’s IPL Playoff records do not reach legendary status

Rohit Sharma made only 133 running with an average of 9.50 in the 15 IPL Playoff match. The form of Mumbai Indians will be worried when the form dives once again.
Mumbai Indians are gunning for a record 6th IPL title. While no team has ever won an IPL title after finishing fourth on the points table, MI are on a Mission Impossible. A lot will depend on how their star batter and former captain Rohit Sharma, who led them to five IPL titles, performs in the absence of Ryan Rickleton and Will Jacks, who departed for national duties. But Rohit Sharma’s IPL playoffs records are, to put it bluntly, shambolic. With GT vs MI serving as a knockout match in IPL 2025, MI will be concerned.
Rohit is just 43 runs away from becoming only the second batter after Virat Kohli to score 7000 runs in IPL. However, despite the statistics, Rohit needs to up his game in the playoffs. In 15 playoff matches for Deccan Chargers and MI, Rohit has scored just 133 runs at an average of 9.50. His highest score in the playoffs (excluding the final) is 26. He has seven single-digit scores and two ducks in those 15 innings. His two half-centuries have come in the IPL final, against Chennai Super Kings in 2015 and Delhi Capitals in 2020.

Rohit Sharma in IPL 2025
While Rohit’s form has ebbed and flowed in IPL 2025, he has still managed three half-centuries in 13 innings. He is Mumbai Indians’ third-highest scorer with 329 runs, behind Suryakumar Yadav (640) and Ryan Rickleton (388). Rohit has averaged 27.42 in 13 innings and has managed a strike rate of 147.53.
However, since his last half-century against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, Rohit has scored two single-digit scores and a lowly 21-ball 24 in their last match against Punjab Kings.
Rohit Sharma against GT bowlers
The former MI captain isn’t lucky against Gujarat Titans either. Rohit Sharma has scored 140 runs in seven innings at an average of 20.00 against GT. While he has managed a strike rate of 137.25, he has been dismissed at least once by all the GT bowlers. The only exception has been Gerald Coetzee, his former MI teammate.
Rohit’s record against Rashid Khan has been abysmal. Across formats, Rohit has been dismissed by the Afghanistan leg-spinner five times. He averages just 16 against Rashid.
