Sabres employs Eric Staal in the front office role from the front

Buffalo Sabres, Wednesday, said he hired Eric Staal as a special assistant for the General Manager.

40 -year -old Staal will report directly to General Manager Kevyn Adams. First, he said in a news bulletin that he would help all aspects of the hockey department, including direct participation in scouting and players and expectations.

“While looking for ways to improve our current staff, I wanted to add a new perspective to our group and someone who has an experience of winning at all hockey levels.” He said. “Eric was one of the first people I thought of when I was the general manager at the beginning, so it is appropriate to contribute to our Offseason organization. He did everything as a player and I know that his experience and knowledge will be invaluable for our team while trying to take the next step.”

Staal played 18 seasons in NHL, including a part of the 2020-21 campaign with Sabres. He announced his retirement on 30 July 2024 and signed a ceremony contract to retire with Carolina Hurricanes, where he played for 12 seasons.

“Although it was short, I liked my time in Buffalo, and as a player, I was lucky to get a small look at things that made the city such a special place and a great sports town.” He said. “I was lucky to have been in many successful teams throughout my career, and I hope I could lean on some of these experiences to help the organization move forward.

In 2005-06, a Stanley Cup champion with Carolina, Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Sabres, Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers with 1,063 points (455 goals, 608 assists) made a collection.
