South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday that the joint general manager Han Jong-Hee died because of a heart stop. Han was 63 years old.
While Han is responsible for Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices department, CEO Jun Young-Hyun supervises the chip business of the largest company in South Korea.
A company spokesman passed away in a hospital on Tuesday while Han was treated for cardiac Arrest.
The South Korean firm suffers from weak earnings and sagging stocks in the last quarters after fell behind competitors in the production of developed memory chips and contract chip production. Samsung also left the smartphone market crown to Apple.
Han, who joined Samsung Electronics about 40 years ago, founded his career in TV business. In 2022, he became the Vice President and CEO of Samsung Electronics. Han was also one of the members of the company’s board.
Last week, Samsung presided on the shareholder meeting, where and other executives were grilled by the shareholders after the company did not get into AI explosion.
In semiconductors, Samsung, Nvidia and others trust in the HBM chips where the AI graphic processing units are delayed behind SK Hynix.
