Tendulkar offered Rohit Sharma with Emotional 2013 Post

Sachin was found at the first exit of Rohit Sharma and gave him his hat

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar bid farewell to Rohit Sharma with an emotional note following the latter’s decision to retire from Tests. The Hitman took the world by surprise by deciding to call it a day in the longest format of the game just before the England series. Incidentally, Rohit was handed his debut Test cap by the Master Blaster himself at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2013.

Sachin’s emotional farewell post for Rohit

Taking to social media platform X, Sachin wished Rohit the best for his future endeavours following his retirement from Tests. The Master Blaster recalled that he had presented Rohit his maiden Test cap in Kolkata in 2013 and said that he still remembered the moment where the two shared the stand recently at the Wankhede stadium.

Rohit made his Test debut nearly six years after he played ODIs and T20Is. Through his 67-Test career, the Hitman amassed 4301 runs, averaging 40.57, including 12 hundreds and 18 half-centuries. Sharma’s career as a captain didn’t end on a bright note as India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series to Australia 3-1.

Regardless, Rohit has guided India to one World Test Championship final. His form in 2024-25, especially the latter half, was quite miserable. Perhaps this is what prompted Sharma to announce his retirement. Besides, he had reportedly requested the selectors to try himself out in the first two matches against England. However, he was refused.

Series Inns Runs Avg 50/100
vs Bangladesh 4 42 10.50 0/0
vs New Zealand 6 91 15.15 1/0
vs Australia 5 31 6.20 0/0
Ranji Trophy 2 31 15.50 0/0
Overall 17 195 11.47 1/0

For the record, Rohit is the 16th highest run-getter for India in the longest format of the game. Having retired from T20Is earlier, Sharma will now play only in ODIs. The World Cup in 2027 will be his next target.
