Emma Raducanu withdrew from representing the Great Britain in Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers next week after Miami Open’s impressive run in the quarterfinals.
Raducanu would go to the Netherlands with the ties planned against the Netherlands and Germany between 10-12 April, but the world number 48 chose to undertake an educational block instead.
The second, the second one, reached the last eight in Miami before losing Jessica Pegula and brought together the best run since the US won in 2021.
The British No 2 would join Elina Svitolina and Sofia Kenin’s appreciation for the Clay Court WTA 250 in Rouen on April 14, but only a week away from the tournaments for a few months away, she would have the opportunity to train with an unreacited return date.
Raducanu was chosen by Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Harriet Dart and Olivia Nicholls for Billie Jean King Cup by Team captain mother Keothavong. However, it turned out that he would not participate in the end.
Skipper Keothavong, “I know that this is a difficult decision for Emma. Of course, you always miss a player in the team, we have seen what it can do in the past, but I have a very belief in the players who travel next week and who will approve a fifth player on time.” He said.
The UK will compete in a new round Robin qualifying format that will turn to the finals later this year.
The remaining two teams will have to compete in the play-offs for the chance to return to qualifiers in 2026.
Raducanu was going to Spain for Big 1000 Madrid Open in La Caja Magica between April 22 – May 4, but it is unclear whether the French Open would participate in the tournament in front of the French Open, which began on Sunday, May 25th.
