While Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Tests on Monday, now the biggest worry for the fans if, if the batter would continue playing till the World Cup 2027. Same goes for recently retired Rohit Sharma as well, since the duo will be 38 and 40-year-old, by the time next tournament comes in.

Of course, nothing can be said as of now, but Sunil Gavaskar feels, the two legends will not be part of the 2027 World Cup team. The batter-turned-broadcaster claimed, that even though they are the biggest names in the format, they might just not be around at that point of time.

In the last one year, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli went on to win the T20 World Cup, followed by the Champions Trophy win; so they have a lot of accolades to their names already. “They have been massive performers in this format of the game. Again, the selection committee will probably be looking at the 2027 World Cup. They will be looking at ‘will they be able to be in the team for the 2027 World Cup? Will they be able to make the kind of contributions they have been making?’.

“That will be the thought process of the selection committee. If the selection committee thinks ‘yes, they can’, then both of them will be there for that,” Gavaskar told Sports Today. But as far as his personal opinion goes, the chances are unlikely. “No, I don’t think they will be playing. I am being very honest. But, who knows, in the next year or so, if they strike a rich vein of form, and if they keep scoring hundreds and hundreds, even God can’t drop them,” Gavaskar concluded.
