Rajat Patidar passes Gaikwad Tendulkar in IPL Record

Rajat Patidar was only the second fastest Indian to the 1000 IPL run behind Sai Sudharsan.

Rajat Patidar did not have the best outings in the RCB vs PBKS clash, but still managed to enter the record books. The RCB skipper became just the 3rd Indian player to score 1000 runs for the Bengaluru franchise. Overall, Patidar is the second fastest among Indians to the landmark, trailing only Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans.

Rajat Patidar just needed 15 runs to reach the 1000 run mark in IPL cricket, doing do in the RCB vs PBKS match. Playing at the Chinnaswamy, the RCB skipper scored a fighting 23. None of the other batters in the RCB top six scored in double digits in their rain-curtailed encounter.

Nonetheless, Patidar achieved the feat in only his 30th IPL game. Since being bought as an injury replacement in IPL 2022, the Madhya Pradesh ace hasn’t looked back. He has since won an India cap and assumed captaincy of RCB, with this latest record adding more sheen to his career. He has left IPL stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma behind.

Patidar rare among RCB stars

Rajat Patidar is also the third Indian to reach the 1000-run mark with the franchise in 18 years of the tournament. While Virat Kohli has 8000+ runs, Devdutt Padikkal is the next best, having reached the milestone in RCB’s previous game. What makes the 31-year-old’s achievement special is his consistency. He has beome a vital cog in RCB’s line up, sharing the run-scoring burden with Virat Kohli and new joinee Phil Salt at the top of the order.

Among all players to have scored a 1000 runs in the IPL, Patidar is the only Indian to have averaged over 35 and struck at 150+. Patidar joins the likes of Chris Gayle, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, Shimron Hetmyer and Travis Head in a select group. While the RCB captain has scored consistently, he has done it at considerable pace, making him a dangerous prospect for opposition captains.
