Will Suresh Raina join CSK as a stroke coach in IPL 2026?

IPL became a new stroke coach in 2026, which deals with speculation about Surresh Raina, CSK Assistant Bowling Coach remained tight lip
Former Chennai Super Kings batter Suresh Raina triggered speculations of becoming the team’s batting coach in IPL 2026. The incident occurred while he was commentating during the GT vs CSK game on Sunday. Raina, who was a part of CSK since the inception of IPL, last played for the side in the 2021 season.
Raina to return to CSK as coach?
Speaking at the post-match press conference, CSK assistant bowling coach Sridharan Sriram clarified if Raina was indeed to return to CSK as a support staff member. He claimed that he would have to confirm with the southpaw if he indeed said that, keeping tight-lipped about the matter.
“I don’t know. I have to ask him if he said that,” Sriram said.
It is pertinent to point out that CSK’s current batting coach is the team’s former star Michael Hussey. During commentary on Sunday, Raina claimed that CSK were in talks to hire a new batting coach. When co-panelist Aakash Chopra tried to dig deeper by asking if his name started with S, Raina responded saying that he had scored the fastest fifty in IPL.
This prompted Chopra to say, “You heard it here first.” Hussey has been the batting coach for the side since 2018.
Meanwhile, CSK finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in IPL history. MS Dhoni and co. managed to win just 4 out of 14 games in IPL 2025. Their old school batting line-up let the the team down in the tournament until youngsters like Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brewis and Urvil Patel were named replacements mid-way.
Shivam Dube was their highest scorer — getting 357 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 32. Ravindra Jadeja is second on the list with 301 runs at an average of 33. Newbie Ayush Mhatre scored 240 runs in 7 matches, in his very first season.
