Left-handed Ryan Yarbrough (0-0, 4.11 ERA) will begin for Yankees in the second competition of the three series. New York won the opener 3-0 on Friday.
Schmidt (0-1, 5.52) told reporters that he felt additional pain after throwing 90 fields in an unstable season against Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. He also said that the right rotator headline tendinitis, who delayed the season's exit of the injury, is indifferent.
Yarbrough distributed two hits against Baltimore Orioles on Monday on Monday, but did not make a 4-3 loss decision.
